Studio Policies

Instruction and Fees:

Ms. Jaina offers private piano instruction primarily in person at her home studio in Rogers, Arkansas or virtually via FaceTime and Zoom.  Standard weekly lesson blocks at the studio are 25 minutes in length and consist of sight reading, ear training, performance practice, music theory instruction, and composition.

Annual tuition for private studio instruction is $1200 per student and may be paid in full ($1200), quarterly ($300), or in monthly installments of $100. Tuition is a reservation of studio time – not a fee for services rendered – and students are required to make full and timely payments regardless of attendance in order to hold their reservation at the studio.

Monthly payments are due the last week of the month prior to instruction (e.g. payment for September is due the last week of August).  Payment may be made by Venmo, Zelle, or Paypal. I also gladly accept cash or checks. Late payments are subject to an additional $20 fee.  Need me to bill you?  Let me know!

Virtual/in person lessons are interchangeable.  Just give Ms. Jaina a heads-up if you will be joining her in a different mode than usual.  Your lesson time will not change!

In addition to monthly fees, students are responsible for book fees and other incidental fees.  Costs vary but are generally less than $30 per year (beginning students may spend more initially)*.  Book fees are due the week after the student is given new material.  Students are not required to participate in competitions or public recitals; however, if they choose to enter a competition or public recital they are responsible for any fees corresponding to the activity.

*Ms. J loans books to students whenever possible to keep book fees low for students; please take good care of loaned items and return them promptly for other students to enjoy.  Borrowed books must be paid for if not returned or if damaged while in your care.

Studio Schedule:

2025-26 school year scheduling begins August 4, 2026. The studio schedule allows for 45 lessons per year plus one annual piano recital. The studio will be closed on the following dates:

Illness/Absence and Inclement Weather:

Please do a symptom check before arriving at Ms. J’s studio for in person lessons!  Sniffles, sneezes, sore throat, upset stomach, abnormal fatigue, or fever are all indications that your immune system is working hard to keep you healthy. If you are not feeling quite yourself but are still able to function, we will have a virtual lesson at the same time as your normally scheduled in person lesson.

If more than 48 hours notice is given for an absence or if a lesson is canceled by Ms. J, a makeup lesson will be scheduled for the student.  If possible, the lesson will be scheduled within the next week during regular studio hours.  If less than 48 hours notice is given for an absence, a make-up lesson may be scheduled at the discretion and convenience of Ms. J.  The makeup lesson will forfeited if the student is unable to attend at the time offered.  No-shows will not be made up.

Ms. Jaina is available for lessons at her studio during inclement weather and will plan to see students virtually at their regular lesson times unless notified by the student/parent.  If power outages or other disasters prevent a virtual lesson, a makeup lesson will be scheduled when possible.

Practice Requirements:

No amount of brilliant teaching can compensate for lack of practice.  Ms. J wants every student to excel musically and will do everything in her power to instruct and encourage toward that goal.  In return, students have a responsibility to practice what was covered in the previous lesson and to be prepared to perform well for Ms. J at their next lesson.  An individualized plan for practice will be discussed with each student to ensure students are able to achieve their goals in a timely fashion.  Student success is directly proportional to the amount of time spent with the piano, and parents are encouraged to check in with students to ensure they are setting aside enough time to practice.

Piano or Keyboard?

Most beginners do just fine on a keyboard for the first year or two.  However, it is difficult to find inexpensive electronic or digital keyboards with a touch/response like a piano keyboard.  This really does influence how students train their muscles during exercises and will eventually affect the sound they produce on a piano.  The sooner you find a real piano, the better!  Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist are good places to free or inexpensive used pianos in your area. If owning a piano is not possible, consider asking a grandparent, neighbor, or your local church or community group if they have a piano that the student could be allowed to use for regular practice.  I am also happy to offer suggestions for keyboards if needed.
